Ankhegs are a type of Dungeons & Dragons monster that embody the ferocity and tenacity of giant, burrowing insects. Burrowing underground they wait just below the surface bursting forth to capture their unsuspecting prey. With a challenge rating of 2, a lone Ankheg may not be much of a threat, however in groups they can quickly overwhelm an adventuring party. It is definitely advisable they try and avoid their acid spray. Their highest stat is typically Strength, reflecting their incredible physical power.

With this build I decided to seperate the thorax and abdomen to help create the feeling that this was indeed a giant insect. The Redish Brown and Dark Tan colour scheme helps link the creature to the dirt and gravel it calls home. An interesting quest for an adventuring party might involve exploring a once profitable mine, now infested with Ankhegs. The party must navigate treacherous tunnels and face off against the Ankheg queen, “The Devouring Matriarch” as the locals have taken to naming her. Will they emerge victorious, or will they become the Ankhegs’ next meal?
